Since its inaugural match in 1930, the FIFA World Cup™ has become the most widely viewed and followed sporting event globally. With the event occurring every four years, the FIFA World Cup™ takes place in host nations from across the world.
 

Supreme committee for deliver and legacy (SC)

  • SC, mainly tasked by the host country for the delivery, exercises direct and indirect controls over the activities by key players for the delivery of the Tournament.
  • SC will have direct control over its own activities that will be carried out by its cross-functional teams.
  • The teams will have adequate resources and capacity to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.

    As per the Bid Book, the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee has made environmental sustainability a central theme of its hosting concept, with the goal of recommending and setting new environmental standards for the preparation and delivery of the Tournament and for creating an environmental legacy that will inspire and guide future generations well beyond 2022.

  • Our Role

    Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) that worked on the project as an advisory partner to support in achieving a comprehensive Sustainability Maturity and Peer Analysis study, exploring best-practices for international mega-events. Preparation of Roadmap and strategy to make event carbon neutral.

  • The scope of the work involved

    The purpose of the strategy is to establish a framework of goals, programs and initiatives:

    • To manage the positive and adverse impact of the Tournament on environmental, social, human and economic pillars of sustainability.
    • To design and deliver projects that would reduce environmental impact
    • To leverage the opportunities provided by the Tournament to create a sustainable legacy for the nation and the region and achieve carbon neutral.

  • With Strategies in place, the World Cup preparations saw a particular push towards carbon neutrality, with tangible measures put in place that ensured a significant reduction of harmful emissions and non-recyclable waste.
