The Ministry of municipality is the key Qatari national promoter of Expo 2023 Doha and working to improve the quality of life, minimize waste and increase recycling operations, expand green areas, beautify cities, for its residents including children and youth in Qatar.

The business situation & our role

  • The Business Situation

    Guided by the 2030 vision, The International Horticultural Exhibition, Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar, is the first International Horticultural Exhibition held in the Middle East and North Africa region. It adopts the theme of Green Desert, a Better Environment, which aims to inspire and inform people about innovative solutions with the aim to mitigate and reduce desertification.

    Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) worked on the project as Sustainability Advisor.

  • The scope of the work involved

    • Sustainability Strategy and Legacy plan
    • Sustainability Implementation Plan - The implementation cover the three stages of the Expo lifecycle- construction, Event operations, dismantlement and legacy transition
    • Develop sustainability education, communications and engagement plan
    • Develop pre-event and post-event sustainability report
    • Establish well aligned management system as per the ISO 20121:2012 Event Sustainability Management Systems

The value we added

Our consulting services provided a comprehensive sustainability strategy and legacy plan, covering all three stages of the Expo lifecycle (construction, event operations, dismantlement, and legacy transition), including sustainability education, communication and engagement plans, pre- and post-event sustainability reports, and the establishment of a management system aligned with ISO 20121:2012 Event Sustainability Management Systems.
