Since its inaugural match in 1930, the FIFA World Cup™ has become the most widely viewed and followed sporting event globally. With the event occurring every four years, the FIFA World Cup™ takes place in host nations from across the world.
 

Supreme committee for deliver and legacy (SC)

  • SC, mainly tasked by the host country for the delivery, exercises direct and indirect controls over the activities by key players for the delivery of the Tournament.
  • SC will have direct control over its own activities that will be carried out by its cross-functional teams.
  • The teams will have adequate resources and capacity to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.

  • The Business Situation

    As per the Bid Book, the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee has made environmental sustainability a central theme of its hosting concept, with the goal of recommending and setting new environmental standards for the preparation and delivery of the Tournament and for creating an environmental legacy that will inspire and guide future generations well beyond 2022.

  • Our Role

    Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) that worked on the project as an advisory partner to support in achieving a comprehensive Sustainability Maturity and Peer Analysis study, exploring best-practices for international mega-events. FIFA has officially accepted the role of GSAS as the standard that will assure the sustainability of the built environment of the Tournament.

  • The scope of the work involved

    The purpose of the strategy is to establish a framework of goals, programs and initiatives:

    • To manage the positive and adverse impact of the Tournament on environmental, social, human and economic pillars of sustainability.
    • To leverage the opportunities provided by the Tournament to create a sustainable legacy for the nation and the region.
    This strategy is applicable to the host country (the State of Qatar), who is in charge of its implementation. The scope of this strategy covers:
    • Implemented or planned programs and initiatives by national agencies or businesses in the State of Qatar, impacting the environmental, social, human and economic sustainability performance of the Tournament.
    • Stakeholders which are directly and indirectly linked or impacted due to the delivery of the Tournament.

  • Credible green building certifications achieved for competition venues and infrastructure in
    accordance with the GSAS framework.
  • Robust standards developed and implemented for occupational health & safety of the workforce.
  • Effective legacy plans prepared and executed for the venues to create a sustainable legacy beyond 2022.
